Despite the utter rubbishness that is the module I'm being examined on tomorrow, and despite the issues I've had with my dissertation, and despite my numerous and fervent assertions to the contrary, Classics still fascinates me. I'm still not sure how to cope properly with studying. All I do know is I'm not done yet. There's too much left to learn.
Only problem is I've spent a couple of hours today looking up MA courses when I really should have been battling with this stupid Greek.
I am in love. I love this movie. I want to live in this movie and never ever come back out. I will live in this movie while re-reading Prince Caspian and sobbing with fangirlish emotears of unspeakable squee. Human ears cannot hear the pitch I would need hit to convey my squee-factor on this film. Do you understand me? DO YOU? NO! You cannot possibly understand my torment that this movie is not in fact reality and I will never go to Narnia.
That's what this movie did: It made me remember the way I read the book nearly to death, and it matched up with all the pictures I had in my head, except sometimes it was better. Like.. REEPICHEEP. That was concentrated awesomesauce. Then there was the small matter of how the girls got to fight (oh hells yes).
I always hated that idiotic notion in the books that girls couldn't be in battle and I cannot tell you how glad I am that got tossed on its ear and Susan got to Legolas her way into being a freaking ninja!queen of awesome.
My new and relatively demanding job has kept me away from things, but I’m settling into a comfortable routine and am slowly beginning to get back on top of my commitments. I think it’s good to have one’s life shaken up a bit, but initially it’s a bit of a shock to the system. I’m enjoying the challenge (I don’t mean that in a PR-veneer type way, it’s actually rather fun!) but the weekends really can’t come too soon.
The typically unpredictable weather means that layering is essential, so I’m still plodding along on my Darcy and I’ve started a new cardigan from the same book (Kim Hargreaves’ Heartfelt) called Faith. I don’t think the photos in the book really did it justice - I wonder if it’s a little large for the model, actually - but once I’d seen naganasu’s beautiful version I knew I had to knit it.
I’m not the biggest fan of RYC Bamboo Soft, the recommended yarn. I mentioned my problems with it in an earlier post, and I wasn’t convinced it would hold up very well in a big, fairly heavy cardigan. The colours and price weren’t ideal, too, so I went for a soft cotton yarn in Garnstudio’s Safran. It’s very soft, the colours are to die for, and it’s not too expensive. It’s a dream to knit with: very smooth and not at all splitty. I chose the brightest turquoise they produce, and it’s so vibrant it practically glows. See for yourself:
To counter this eye-searing project, my Darcy jacket is quietly growing. The texture is delicious, and the gentle dove grey a pleasure to look at.

Yummy

The rest of the day was good. I talked to a bunch of people, copied a pattern for joined hose from
Between the second and third course, they called court for the King and Queen. HRM Elis called me up, thanked me for finishing my QA project and gave me a little token. Then HRM Titus took my hands and the herald called for the Order of the Laurels! They asked me to join the order! I was so shocked I don't really remember much more but I do remember that they had to ask three times because I just kept nodding. Finally Elis said, "you have to say yes in english," so I did.
I have to make a final decision about when but right now it looks like Cynagua Investiture in July, with a vigil at June Crown since I think the investiture event is only one day. More to come later........
I went to the Kyoto Culture Museum on Saturday, to see an exhibit on the Tale of Genji. Which was lovely, and which I very much enjoyed-- it's hard to describe the joy I get out of that particular work of literature, since by all indicators it's not to my taste at all. And yet, and yet.
A new friend is obsessed with Arashi, a Japanese boy band. I'm not obsessed with any band at the moment, and certainly not any boy bands-- that's never been my thing-- but this parody video was too funny not to share. The video and song are actual, it's the subs that are different.
This story about a man who built himself wings and then flew made me happy. And did at least a little bit to counteract the wave of depression I felt at the two photos in the MSNBC "Week in Pictures" archives of the past two weeks, pictures which swept through my heart in a sudden, devastating rush.
( The fire dancers were out last night, twirling beneath the bridge, and we stopped on our way to get coffee to watch them. )
We watched dramas while at
The main event for the weekend was the Mifune Matsuri, of course, but that will have to wait.

Freija is helping us pack and make the bed!
Today is Sunday. Today we must pack, have a meal with my dad, pack some more. I open tomorrow, 5am to 1:15. After that, Rafi's picking me up, and we'e off to Miami International. Our first flight takes off at 7:15pm and lands in Belem at 4:20am. Our second flight takes off at 6:20am and lands in Brasilia at 8:45am. We lose one hour in the first flight, sit in Belem for two hours, then get to Brasilia. I am going to be a tired, cranky mess. In no state to meet and greet grandparents. I hope everything goes well.
Anyways, I'm hungry, and I don't know when I'm supposed to meet my dad to eat. :[
We woke up and found her in her cage by the looks of it she died in her sleep.

I'm going to miss her so much,
but I'm glad I didn't have to have her put down.
I actually made the appointment to have her put down because she developed 3 mammary tumors all of which could not be removed due to her old age.
Her quality of life was declining and it was just hard to watch.
We even bought her baby food this last week because she had a hard time eating her regular food.
I'm not sure if we are going to get another rat.
In some ways I think that we should go adopt one because I know we are good pet owners and there are too many homeless pets out there.
Who knows though, Timmy said he doesn't want anymore animals,
but he has a good heart and I'm sure some little furry creature we find change his mind.
Set up before being packed up for the event. Mount Olympus with grape vines and temple at top.
Set up at Mist Investiture with candies surrounding. Aphrodite didn't survive the travel unscathed. Her leg broke so I broke the other one and had her kneeling.
All in all it was a good event. I will post something longer once I've taken Beth to work.
